A specific example can be found in one of our projects on Burner Optimization Studies. Herein, a large lime-making company was experiencing at one of their plants some mixing problems with one of their burners with swirl vanes at the end-pipe shown on the left of the figure below. AlphaThermal helped find a solution by designing a bluff-body insert to increase tip velocity which, in turn, improved recirculation and mixing as shown in the CFD modeling. A shorter, more intense flame resulted along with the needed high temperatures required for production increase.
