Dead-burned magnesite is used almost entirely as a refractory material either directly as grains or as a constituent of a variety of bricks and mortars. These refractories are widely used but find their largest markets in the steel and copper industries and in several rotary kiln applications. The great merit of refractories of magnesite base is the ability to withstand basic slags and high temperatures. Calcination is similar to the LWA process and may not need preheaters.
